The course is predominantly aimed at Accounting & Finance professionals with monthly financial reporting duties. However, anyone from around a business with regular reporting duties will benefit, particularly where they must compare actuals against set budgets or forecasts. Participants will generally be interested in how to leverage multiple data sets to create more engaging reports and/or automate their monthly processes.

Power BI - no prior knowledge is required. The course is suitable for both Beginners and Intermediates, or those with a good knowledge of Power BI looking to learn a variety of relevant techniques and best practices for financial reporting work. The course covers all the fundamentals whilst applying the knowledge to relevant tasks at hand.

Power Query & Power Pivot - this course is Excel-based. Some experience of creating Excel formulas would be helpful when we come to the last section of the course, creating reports. But the expectation would be that most Accounting & Finance users would already have this experience as users of Excel.

The courses are designed by accountants, for accountants.

Almost all Power BI & Power Pivot courses are aimed at a general audience, deal only with the reporting of actuals, and utilise generic data sets – this is not sufficient for a Finance professional.

These courses cover techniques to report actuals, forecast and variances together, utilises data sets recognised by accountants (e.g. account codes, costs centres, budget, forecasts etc) and frames all the learning in how the applications can be applied to solve typical month-end reporting problems.

Topics and theory are explained throughout the courses first and foremost via short video lectures, based around a comprehensive, downloadable course slide deck.

Theory is then demonstrated in Power BI and Excel, with the knowledge applied to import data, create the data model, produce financial calculations with DAX and then create monthly financial reports. The participant is invited to create all these elements as they go along.

Regular quizzes throughout the course help test knowledge. Power BI reports are followed by a challenge, where a series of month-end type questions are posed that require the participants to utilise the report to get answers.
